This is version 3.
It is not the current version, and thus it cannot be edited. Welcome to the Standards for Scientific Observations and Measurements website. This site is part of a broader initiative to engage a diverse and representative group of researchers to address issues of observational data modeling. The aims are to standardize existing and future information management systems that will significantly improve the ability of scientists to utilize ecological and environmental data archives, and more broadly for accessing any scientific data of an “observational” nature. The potential for semantic discovery and exploration of data archives is a powerful technique that will lead to more efficient, and therefore more scalable synthesis activities. These activities in turn will impact society-at-large because of their importance in understanding and managing complex environmental systems and dealing with human-induced global problems.
